Spring is nearly here, and that means that girls all around the globe will be looking for one thing: perfect beach waves. We don’t really think that this trend is ever going to go out of style during the warmer months, and that’s okay because beach waves look great on everyone.

The question on most minds is how to get those waves, and we want to make it as simple as possible to look like you just climbed out of your mermaid castle. Take a look at these beach wave tips brought to you by your favorite Fort Collins spa.

Tip 1: Don’t wash your hair. You can get the wave look if your hair has been freshly washed, so wait until you haven’t washed your hair for a few days to start the beach waves.

Tip 2: Get a layered hair cut, but make sure that most of the layers are around the front of your face. Leave the back of your hair almost unlayered to get that perfect look (just a few layers in the back, and many in the front will cause your hair to curl in an ideal way).

Tip 3: Do you have naturally wavy hair? If you do, you’re almost there! Just use a sea salt spray (or make your own), and spritz it on your unwashed locks. Aim for just underneath your roots and just above the tips of your hair, and scrunch your waves with a towel.

Tip 4: Is your hair already dry? If it is, you don’t want to use a spray that will make it dry out even more (like a sea spray). Instead, use a cream that moisturizes your hair, and will create extra bounce. Just don’t put too much of that cream in your hair, or you will weigh it down too much.

Tip 5: Use a flat iron to curl straight hair. You can use a flat iron by grabbing just a few pieces of hair, twisting slightly (not curling the hair all the way around the iron), and loosely letting those pieces go. Spray to keep the waves in place.

Tip 6: Try to sleep on curls. Curl your hair before you go to bed, and then sleep on your curls. You should wake up with some wavy hair that looks amazing.

Tip 7: Wear a bun to bed. Wrap your hair up in a bun with a soft elastic or headband, and sleep with your hair in this style. Just like curling your hair before you go to bed, a bun will create nice loose waves.

Tip 8: If you do have naturally wavy hair, let it air dry. Over drying can cause hair to look frizzy and unkempt, and this isn’t what you want if you are going for beachy hair. Simply let your locks air dry and use a towel to create those waves.

Tip 9: If you have a special event coming up that you’d like your hair to look beachy for, make sure to book an appointment at Athena. At our hair salon in Fort Collins, we can create the perfect beachy waves for any big day.

The New Wedding Look

Beach hair is all the rage this season when it comes to weddings. If you don’t want to go with something formal, think of letting your hair go the wavy route instead. You can use a metal hair clip with decoration or a garland of flowers to really set the waves off.

There’s no rule that says your wedding has to be a formal affair, so consider beachy waves instead. If you do have a wedding coming up, visit our nail spa after you get your hair done for perfectly manicured hands to go with your ideal day.
