Great skin isn’t always about buying the most expensive products on the market or good genes (though the gene part doesn’t hurt!). Great skin really stems from having an excellent skincare routine that you can follow every single day. Where do you start and what do you need? Take a look at this guide – your beautiful skin awaits!

What You Will Need

  • A really good cleanser (one that’s gentle and doesn’t include irritants is preferable).
  • Toner
  • Exfoliant
  • Any specific skin treatments that you might need (acne, anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, discoloration, etc.).
  • Moisturizer with sunscreen (even during the winter months!).

Process

  • Every morning, your routine should look like this: wash, tone, exfoliate, moisturize. If you have any special products, you can add those to your routine too.
  • Every evening, your routine should include: wash, tone, exfoliate, treatments, moisturize.

If you get into the habit of going through these routines when you wake up, you will find that they become second nature (in fact, it might be hard to wake up or go to bed without going through your daily routine!). Some skin requires additional treatments, but just be sure that you are choosing the right products to put on your skin. Anything that’s too harsh might cause peeling or redness. If possible, choose only organic products that do not contain irritants. Otherwise, your skin might break out in protest!

Since the summer months are ahead of us, let’s talk about your suncare routine here too.

Beware the Sun!

Sunshine feels really great on skin, and it feels better on skin that hasn’t seen the sun in a few months! However, the sun’s harsh rays can really do a lot of damage to skin that isn’t properly protected. When you purchase a moisturizer, make sure that it includes sunscreen. There’s some debate about the chemicals included in sunscreen, but it’s far better to make sure that your skin is protected than skipping sunscreen altogether. Plus, you can purchase a good moisturizer that includes sunscreen ingredients that won’t damage your skin, and that means that you will get the best of both worlds.

Sunscreen doesn’t end at your face either. Make sure to apply sunscreen liberally to your whole body when you are outside. The sun contributes to wrinkles and will dehydrate yoru skin, so making sure that you are protected against the sun’s harshness is the only way to keep your skin looking young. Now that we’re all on the same sunscreen page, let’s talk about one last thing – keeping your face looking great by booking regular facials.

The Facial Factor

Sometimes, skin just needs to be rejuvenated. Making sure that you go through the right skincare routine (and use the right ingredients) regularly is a really good start. You may also need a facial or two, though. When the right ingredients are used, a facial can add extra moisturizer to your skin while also making sure that your skin is exfoliated properly. These things can help your skin to look and feel great. At Athena, we only use the best products for facials, and we have a number of different salon services for you to choose from. If you aren’t sure what your skin needs, we can help you there too.

Just book an appointment with one of our experts, and we’ll assess your skin type, so that you can leave our salon looking amazing. We also offer an express facial option for those days when you just don’t have a lot of time, but still want to look amazing. If you take care of your skincare routine daily, we’ll make sure that your skin looks great between facial appointments. Building a good skincare routine isn’t hard to do, but it does require the right products and some time. If you start a new skincare routine, you should notice a difference in your skin right away (and don’t forget to hydrate and eat properly too).
