Hair removal is an unfortunate part of every adolescent and adult woman’s life. Gels, creams, razors, time – it all adds up. But have you considered waxing as a simple alternative? Waxing lasts three to five weeks, so with one appointment at your Fort Collins spa and little pain (let’s be honest), you can set aside that necessity for weeks. Before you make that first appointment, here are a few things to consider.
Start slowly. If you have a low pain threshold or are nervous about what to expect, schedule a small appointment first, like armpits or eyebrows. An esthetician at the best spa will also talk through the possibilities with you. Once you know what to expect, you can schedule other appointments accordingly.
Prep the skin. Exfoliate the area the day before to remove dead skin cells, and follow up with baby oil to soften hair follicles. Hair should be about a quarter of an inch long (2-3 weeks of not shaving) so the wax can grip it best. This means that cooler weather requiring jeans and long sleeves may be the perfect time for a first waxing. You should also refrain from tanning for 24 hours before and after the appointment, since your skin will be more tender.
Breathe deeply. Once the wax is applied, there’s a tendency to hold your breath. However, that makes the body tense and the pores close, which means the waxing won’t be as effective. The pain will also be greater. Concentrating on taking deep, slow breaths is a great way to take your mind off the pain. Our Fort Collins spa is also proud to uses Nufree products, which bond with the hair, not the skin, to lower pain intensity.
Use the products. Pop an aspirin or ibuprofen half an hour before the appointment. You can also apply a first aid antibiotic cream afterward, like Neosporin, which has pain relief. The esthetician may also be able to recommend a soothing cream if you’re worried about continuing pain or itching.
Until you know what to expect at the best spa, waxing may seem like an overwhelming thought. But tiny hair follicles are damaged in a first waxing, so subsequent appointments will hurt less and hair growth will diminish. It’s worth taking the plunge – the results are amazing!
