Tips for Getting Your Beauty Sleep

beauty sleepWe all know that we need to get enough sleep especially if we want to radiate health and beauty day in and day out. Getting a good night’s sleep makes you look more rested, feel more energized throughout the day and can even assist with weight loss efforts. But oftentimes in the anxiety-ridden world that we live in, it might be hard to turn off the day in time to get an adequate amount of sleep every night. While pre-bedtime massages might do the trick, we may not all have access to our own personal at-home spa services.

According to sleep researchers, the body needs sleep in order to heal, replenish and repair itself overnight. There are varying guidelines for the amount of sleep that we need to get but in general, kids need anywhere from 10-18 hours of sleeping depending on the age of the child, teens need 8.5-9.5 hours of sleep and adults need 7-9 hours of sleep per night.

So how are we supposed to get the adequate amount of sleep? Here are some suggestions to prepare for a great night’s sleep.

Make sure to exercise every day, even as little as 20 minutes of walking per day can keep stress levels down, assist in weight loss and help you get to sleep at night.

Avoid large meals, caffeine, nicotine or other stimulants just before bedtime.

Unplug all technological devices including TV’s, computers, tablets, etc. These types of gadgets can often be too stimulating to the eyes and the brain. Curb the electronic devices and instead try reading, taking a warm bath, file your nails or write in your journal.

Schedule foot, back or leg massages late in the afternoons or in the evenings. This can help to relax mind, body, and spirit before bedtime, just be careful not to re-stimulate yourself too much before heading to the sack. Try going to bed as early as possible after your spa services to ensure that you’re taking advantage of this relaxation technique.

Dim the lights, eliminate noise as much as possible and make sure the temperature is comfortably cool, try to stick around 68 degrees.

By keeping some or all of these tips in mind you will be able to get your beauty sleep and wake up rested and rejuvenated for a brand new day.
