A lot of makeup, haircare, and skincare companies sell items that are just for “winter skin,” but do you really need to change your whole lineup of skincare products when the seasons change? Here’s a closer look from the experts at your Windsor Spa.
As we’ve said many times on this blog, you can’t have good hair and skin unless you take care of what you put into your body (makes sense, right?). It might seem as though things like water aren’t as necessary during the winter months, but this isn’t the case. Just because the sun isn’t heating things up doesn’t mean that you can cut back on your water consumption. Keep drinking lots of water to remain hydrated during the wintertime, and your body will thank you.
It’s also important to bump up the amount of fat that you normally eat. While fried foods are still a no-no, you should get into the habit of eating healthy fats like avocado and coconut products during the wintertime – your skin will glow as a result!
Since you don’t sweat as much during the wintertime (unless you are an avid outdoor sports enthusiast!), you don’t need to wash your hair quite as much as you did during the summer months. Try shampooing just once per week, don’t skip the conditioner a few times per week, and resort to simply washing your hair with water once or twice per week. Sometimes, shampoo isn’t necessary.
Winter skincare might mean a moisturizer that is a bit thicker for some. In addition to thicker cream, look for a moisturizer that has shea butter or coconut oil listed in the ingredients. It’s also a wise idea to find a moisturizer that includes SPF. Speaking of SPF – as your Windsor Spa experts, we advise you to always use a sunscreen. Even during winter, your skin needs protection from the sun!
As part of your daily routine, slather on the SPF. Surprisingly, the winter sun is just as harsh as the summer sun even though it doesn’t seem that way. In short, your skin needs all of the protection that it can get, so don’t skip the SPF.

In the meantime, keep in mind that you do need a different beauty routine during the winter months. You may have to change your moisturizer, and you will probably find that shampooing your hair less is a good idea. The most important thing, though, is to always eat well and hydrate. It’s nearly impossible to have good hair and skin without first taking care of what goes inside of your body, so keep that in mind.
