Zap Those Zits Naturally

We’ve all been there…you’re getting ready for a big day or a big event and notice that a small volcano is starting to form on your chin. A moment of panic sets in as you douse your new sprouting zit with a heavy layer of foundation hoping that this will suffice. To your utter horror, your chin volcano continues to grow in size and redness until it feels like your entire face is engulfed in a zit-filled horror story.

Can you relate? If so, here are a few beauty salon approved tips for getting rid of your mini volcano before it erupts like Mount Vesuvius.

Press an ice pack to your pimple as soon as you notice it beginning to develop. Ice the area for twenty minutes. This will help to reduce swelling and inflammation caused by built-up bacteria.

Dab lemon juice on a cotton ball and apply it to your pimple. This will help to further reduce redness and swelling, as well as help to dry it out naturally. This can also help alleviate any pain caused by your pimple as well. Applying Visine can help to reduce redness and inflammation as well.

Before heading to bed, dab a small amount of toothpaste to your pimple. This can help to draw out any excess oil or moisture that can accumulate while you’re sleeping. Plain white toothpaste works best. Avoid using gel toothpaste as this could end up just contributing to your problem.

You can also try dipping a cotton swab into milk of magnesia and apply it your pimple. Wait for it to dry and rinse off.

The methods above will help your pimple disappear but it still takes a day or two, so in the meantime apply a non-oil based concealer to cover your pimple. Applying a non-oil concealer can hide your pimple while it heals without contributing to the problem.

In order to avoid zits in the first place, it’s a good idea to frequently clean your cell phone as cell phones are a breeding ground for dirt and bacteria.

Whatever you do, keep your fingers and hands off of your sprouting zit. Popping and squeezing zits will only make them worse and it may cause bacteria to spread to other parts of your face.

The best way to avoid facial acne is an effective facial cleansing regimen in addition to regular facials. Make an appointment today at Athena Spa and Salon, Northern Colorado’s Windsor spa of choice. The skin experts at Athena will pamper your face, ensuring a Mount Vesuvius-free chin.
