At-Home Facial Exfoliation Tips
We’ve all heard that we need to exfoliate our facial skin in order to maintain a youthful complexion…but what exactly does it mean to exfoliate and how do you go about exfoliating your facial skin effectively? The facial spa and exfoliation specialists at Athena Salon and Spa, Fort Collins spa of choice, know a thing or two about exfoliation and creating beautiful and glowing facial skin. In this blog post they reveal some of their secrets for at-home facial exfoliation.
By mildly roughening your facial skin with exfoliating agents, you can help to remove the surface layer of dead cells on your face. By exfoliating regularly and removing that surface layer of dead skin cells, your fine lines will be less visible.
When exfoliating at home, moisten your face with water. Then use a loofah, exfoliating gloves and/or a synthetic scrubbing sponge that is specifically designed for your delicate facial skin and apply an exfoliating cleanser, also specially designed for the face, onto the loofah or sponge. Beware that there are some exfoliating cleansers that may contain up to 25 percent pumice; these should never be used on facial skin.
Rub your face with the loofah or sponge using circular motions while also avoiding scrubbing too heavily under the eyes. The delicate skin found under the eyes is thin and easily damaged by abrasive cleansers and/or harsh sponges.
Once you’ve applied the cleanser and rubbed it onto your face, rinse your face thoroughly with warm water. Avoid using hot water, especially on your face. After your face is rinsed and dried, apply a moisturizer that contains alpha or beta hydroxyl acids. These ingredients will continue the exfoliating process due to the fact that acids will help slough off additional dead skin cells.
You may also want to try an exfoliating mask. You can even make an exfoliating mask yourself by mashing up papaya and smearing it on your face and rinsing it off thoroughly after 15 minutes. The enzymes found in papaya will also help exfoliate the skin.
By following these simple tips, the glow on your face will look like you just indulged in an array of premier spa services. If an at-home regimen isn’t your thing, call Athena Salon and Spa today to make a facial spa appointment with a professional that will leave you looking your best.
